Iran's Revolutionary Guards announce Strait of Hormuz revenue-sharing deal with Oman

TEHRAN, Iran — TEHRAN — Iran's Revolutionary Guards said on Wednesday that an agreement had been reached with Oman on the sharing of waters and revenues in the Strait of Hormuz. The Guards accused the United States of obstructing negotiations with Oman and of causing delays to the deal. In its statement, the Revolutionary Guards said the strait could be reopened if the US removed its obstacles and returned to a previously agreed memorandum of understanding. The Guards added that the maritime passage near Oman is entirely under Iranian control and that no enemy warships are present in Gulf waters. The force also claimed the enemy is facing difficulties in resupplying strategic weapons. Iran and Oman have been holding intermittent talks for weeks over passage control in the strait, through which roughly one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments transit. The two countries had been discussing the arrangement before a war began in February. Since the conflict started, most shipments through the waterway have halted, with Iran and the US each tightening their grip on the strategic passage through separate enforcement measures. On Tuesday, Iran and Oman announced they had agreed to establish a temporary joint maritime corridor through the strait and to clear it of mines.
