Iran's Revolutionary Guard says it stopped 6 ships in the Strait of Hormuz

BASRA, Iraq — Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said it stopped six ships in the Strait of Hormuz after issuing warnings and asserted full control over the waterway. In a statement, the force said it maintains continuous surveillance across a 240,000-square-kilometer area covering the Persian Gulf and the strait. IRGC officials said no vessel that failed to comply with the rules would be allowed to pass and that attempts by the U.S. Navy to redirect commercial ships were met with a firm response. They reported that in the past 24 hours, six ships were halted after warnings and forced to follow Iranian directives. In a separate claim, U.S. Central Command said it had redirected 12 commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and that a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports remains in place.
