Iran's Kancevre tops global temperature rankings at 55°C

TEHRAN, Iran — Kancevre, a city in Iran's Kermanshah province, registered 55°C and rose to the top of global temperature rankings, according to meteorological data reported by Hamshahri. It is the first time this year that a city in the province has claimed the top spot worldwide.
Several southwestern Khuzestan province locations also entered the rankings, with Omidiyeh at 51.4°C, Bandar Mahshahr at 51.1°C, Bostan at 50.6°C, Abadan at 50.4°C, Safiabad Dezful at 50°C and provincial capital Ahvaz at 49.8°C. In neighboring Ilam province, Dehloran recorded 49.7°C, Masjid-e Suleiman 48.6°C and Behbahan 48.5°C.
The heat wave spread across most of the country, with temperatures in parts of Fars, Kerman, Sistan-Baluchestan, Bushehr, Hormozgan, Qom, Alborz, Yazd and the capital Tehran ranging between 41°C and 47°C. Officials and meteorologists have not yet announced any immediate public health measures in response to the extreme conditions.
