Iran's Araghchi visits Najaf to coordinate Khamenei funeral arrangements

NAJAF, Iraq — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Najaf Governor Yusuf Kenawi on Monday to discuss preparations for the funeral of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The talks took place during Araghchi's visit to Iraq, according to Iran's state news agency IRNA. Araghchi thanked Najaf authorities, religious authorities and residents for their solidarity with the Iranian people, saying their cooperation in organizing the ceremony reflected the depth of religious and humanitarian ties between the Iraqi and Iranian peoples. Kenawi said executive, service and security bodies in the province were prepared to organize the funeral at the highest standard, describing the process as a historic moment that would strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and friendship between the two peoples. The two sides also discussed coordination over the transport of Khamenei's remains and the reception of delegations and visitors attending the ceremony.
