Iran's Araghchi says US pressure campaign is a 'repeated scenario' that will fail

WASHINGTON, United States — TEHRAN — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said U.S. pressure and sanctions on Iran represent a "repeated scenario" that has failed in the past, Iran’s Foreign Ministry reported. Speaking on Saturday, Araghchi said Tehran remains ready for dialogue with Washington but only on the basis of mutual respect, fairness and the preservation of national sovereignty. He said Iran does not fear economic siege and that the United States has no new solutions to offer regarding Iran. Araghchi added that a return to threats and pressure will not change Tehran’s position. He said Iran is open to diplomacy but that the negotiating table should be built on equal terms, not on dictates. The ministry statement did not directly address the international disputes over Iran’s nuclear program or its regional policies.
