TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on Wednesday denied responsibility for the attack on Kuwait Airport. Guards spokesman Brig. Gen. Hossein Mubi said an internal review found that the force’s air units did not fire on the target.
Mubi said damage to the passenger terminal was caused by a malfunction in U.S.-made Patriot systems, which he said were unable to stop Iranian missiles. His remarks followed earlier statements from Kuwaiti authorities on the impact of the attack.
Kuwait’s Health Ministry said 63 people were wounded in the Iranian attack, including civilians, airport workers and some foreign passengers. The Kuwaiti army said it detected and neutralized 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones.
The army also said one Indian national was killed in the attack and that heavy material damage occurred at several locations.
