TEHRAN, Iran — TEHRAN — A senior Iranian lawmaker said his country would not shy away from a conflict with the United States and warned that any war would not remain confined to the region. Ibrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, made the remarks in a post on X, saying Tehran was not afraid of fighting a losing side.
Azizi claimed that US troop losses were far higher than the figures acknowledged by President Donald Trump and accused American officials of understating casualties. He said US losses would continue to rise and indicated that this time a confrontation would expand beyond the Middle East.
The lawmaker's comments came after Trump issued fresh threats against Iran over the pace of nuclear talks. Trump said Iran had prolonged the negotiations and would pay a price, adding when asked what that meant: "We will hit them, hit them hard. We will keep up the bombardment. We hit them hard yesterday, we will hit them again today."
