LONDON โ€” The Bar Standards Board, which regulates barristers in England and Wales, has temporarily suspended International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan from practicing law. The body said Friday the interim suspension took effect immediately and that a review hearing will be held within four weeks. Khan, 56, denies the sexual harassment allegations against him. The ICC placed him on leave on June 8 in connection with the same allegations, and he stepped aside in May pending the outcome of an investigation. Before becoming ICC prosecutor, Khan served as the first head and special adviser of the UN investigative team UNITAD, established to examine crimes committed by ISIS in Iraq between 2018 and 2021. His tenure at the ICC drew international attention after the court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over the Gaza war, a decision the United States opposed with sanctions against Khan. No further details on the Bar Standards Board review were immediately available.
