DUHOK, Iraq โ The Kurdistan Region Health Ministry said on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, that a 47-year-old man from Nineveh has been confirmed with hemorrhagic fever in Duhok. The ministry said the man, from Doogri village in the Sinuni district, works as a shepherd and had contacted infected animals before seeking medical care several times.
Health checks in Duhok raised suspicion of the disease, and tests later confirmed the infection, according to the ministry. The patient is being treated under medical supervision in a hospital in Duhok.
The ministry said his condition is not stable. It urged residents to follow preventive measures, notify veterinary teams if animals show signs of illness, and for those working with livestock to go to health facilities as soon as symptoms appear.
The statement added that although suspected cases were reported in the region earlier this year, previous tests did not confirm infection. It said this was the only confirmed case from Nineveh.
