Guy Silva, a mixed martial artist who competed twice in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, has died. He was 45. Silva died May 31, according to an announcement from FAME, the Poland-based organization where he made his final professional appearance.
Silva was born in Luanda, Angola, and spent much of his career training and competing in California. He fought in the UFC in 2009, losing to CB Dollaway by decision, and again in 2010, when he was defeated by Chris Leben via decision. His professional record began with five wins and one loss.
FAME described Silva as an athlete who brought energy and smiles to audiences through his performances. The organization said he embodied a true sporting spirit through his professionalism.
No official cause of death had been released by Monday. Silva's birthday was in late May, just days before his death.
