Gulf states and Jordan condemn Iran over 'ongoing attacks', urge UN Security Council action

Gulf Cooperation Council member states and Jordan issued a joint statement condemning Iran for what they described as ongoing attacks on their territory. The seven countries said the strikes constitute a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and international law. The statement called on the UN Security Council to adopt an urgent resolution demanding an immediate halt to the attacks. It accused Iran of targeting state security, regional stability and civilian infrastructure, and warned that the operations pose a threat to broader regional security. The countries affirmed their right to individual and collective self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, and said they would take all necessary legal measures to protect their sovereignty, territories, citizens, commercial vessels and vital facilities. The joint statement also welcomed Prime Minister Ali Zibari's decision to consolidate weapons under state authority by September 30. The seven nations reiterated their commitment to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb strait, and said they are ready to cooperate with international maritime organizations to establish lasting arrangements that strengthen regional security.
