Gaza police chief killed in Israeli airstrike, ministry says

GAZA — Gaza's Interior Ministry said Jamal Abu Kameil, the director of police for Gaza governorate, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the city. According to the ministry, the strike hit Abu Kameil's vehicle on Rashid Street in Gaza City. Palestinian medical sources reported that two other people were wounded in the same attack, including a person who was with the police chief and a nearby pedestrian. The Interior Ministry announced Abu Kameil's death in an official statement. Separately, the Israeli military said it had targeted a company commander of Hamas's military wing in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip. Palestinian sources identified the target as Huzayfa al-Qawari. According to the Israeli army, al-Qawari was accused of planning operations against Israeli forces in Gaza.
