BAGHDAD, Iraq โ The office of Sheikh Fayyad, a prominent religious scholar in Najaf, announced Saturday the route for his funeral procession, which will pass through Baghdad, Karbala and Najaf over two days.
The procession is set to depart Baghdad's Kadhimiyya district on June 5. Later that same day, at 17:00, the procession will continue in Karbala from the Abu al-Fadl Abbas Shrine to the Imam Hussein Shrine.
The final stage will take place on June 6 in Najaf. At 09:00, the procession will depart from Sheikh Fayyad's office and arrive at the Grand Shrine, where burial rites will follow.
Sheikh Fayyad's office described him as Najaf's foremost scholar of Islamic jurisprudence. In a statement, the office quoted a hadith stating that when a scholar dies, an irreplaceable gap opens in Islam until the Day of Judgment.
