Four drug dealers arrested in Sulaymaniyah operations, 21 kg of crystal seized

SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq — Four drug dealers were detained in two separate operations in Sulaymaniyah, the Kurdistan Region Security Agency said, with security forces seizing 21 kilograms of crystal narcotics and 25,000 pills. The agency said teams from the Sulaymaniyah General Directorate of Security carried out the weekend operations following technical surveillance and investigations. In the first operation on Sunday, two suspects were arrested and amphetamine in dry and liquid form was confiscated. A separate operation on Saturday led to the detention of two additional suspects and the seizure of 25,000 narcotic pills that had been brought into the city illegally, according to the agency. The four suspects were detained under Article 25 of the Drug and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 1 of 2020, and the investigation remains ongoing. The agency did not release the identities of those arrested. Separately, Colonel Soran Mehdi Garip, spokesman for the Kirmayw administrative police, said a suspect was detained after an investigation launched in response to complaints that he had threatened and blackmailed women through social media. Garip said a large number of women's images were found on the suspect's phone, and that he was placed in custody under Article 2 of the Misuse of Communication Devices Law following a judicial order.
