Five people were injured in a knife and axe attack near a mosque in Edinburgh, Scotland, British public broadcaster the BBC reported. Police said they received a report at around 8:50 p.m. local time of two people injured near a mosque in the western part of the city.
A 36-year-old man, who was shirtless, attacked three more people after the initial incident, damaged several vehicles at petrol stations, ransacked a shop and smashed the door of a pizza restaurant several kilometers away, according to the BBC. Police said the five injured victims, aged between 22 and 39, were not in life-threatening condition.
The attacker was taken into custody and an investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said. No further details were immediately available.
