Fire near Sucar water treatment plant in Anbar extinguished, no damage reported

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A large fire that broke out in dry grass and vegetation next to the Sucar water treatment plant in Anbar province was brought under control on Wednesday, the Anbar Civil Defense Directorate said. Directorate teams responded quickly and prevented the flames from reaching the facility, according to the statement. The fire was extinguished shortly after crews intervened, officials said. No damage was reported at the treatment plant and there were no casualties. The Civil Defense Directorate attributed the outcome to the rapid response and the procedures applied by its teams, which it said averted potential harm. The directorate also called for the regular clearing of dry vegetation in the area to reduce similar fire risks.
