KIRKUK, Iraq โ A fire burned through approximately 10 dunams of wheat fields near Taze Hurmatu, south of Kirkuk, on Saturday. The blaze started during the day in agricultural areas between Beshkir village and Tel al-Jumaliya, local sources said.
Civil defense teams were dispatched after the fire was reported and managed to bring it under control, preventing it from spreading to surrounding farmland. No casualties were reported, and authorities said no damage to nearby homes occurred. Crews conducted cooling operations following the firefighting effort due to the risk of re-ignition from hot weather and wind.
Officials launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Recent fires in agricultural areas across Kirkuk have been attributed to high temperatures and dry grass, according to local reports.
