MOSUL, Iraq โ€” The family of a member of Iraq's Shabak community who died while serving a prison sentence at a deportation facility in Mosul has called for an investigation into the circumstances of the death. Local sources said the detainee, from Harap Sultan village in the Nemrud subdistrict of southeastern Mosul, had been ordered by the Bidaye court to serve a four-month term at the deportation facility over financial debts. According to the sources, his health deteriorated suddenly and he was taken to Mosul General Hospital, where medical examinations showed he had suffered a brain hemorrhage. He died after five days in intensive care. Police sources confirmed that the prisoner experienced a sudden health crisis at the facility on the day in question and was transferred to a hospital. The family has asked the government and judicial authorities to investigate the case transparently, clarify the conditions that led to the death and hold any negligent parties accountable. No further details were immediately available.
