England came from behind to beat the Democratic Republic of the Congo 2-1 in the World Cup round of 32 and advance to the last 16. Congo struck first in the 7th minute through Brian Eppinga, who finished off an assist from Mbimba to stun the early stages of the match. England missed several clear chances in the first half and saw a penalty appeal waved away when Harry Kane went down inside the area in the 42nd minute, leaving Congo ahead 1-0 at the break.
Goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi kept Congo in front through the second half, denying efforts from Marcus Rashford and Jude Bellingham. Kane finally drew England level in the 76th minute, heading in a cross from Gordon, then completed the turnaround in the 86th minute by converting a pass from the same player.
England will face Mexico in the round of 16.
