Electricity Minister Orders Central Emergency Unit for Summer Peak in Baghdad

Electricity Minister Ali Saadi Wahib ordered the creation of a central emergency unit in Baghdad on Saturday, 23 May 2026, to address the summer season’s challenges and complete preparations for the Ziyarat Al-Arbaeen. The move is intended to strengthen operational readiness across the power sector during a period of heightened demand and major public gatherings. The emergency unit will bring together the production, transmission and distribution sectors. Wahib also called for an urgent action plan to monitor load, remove bottlenecks and put stations into a ready state. At the meeting, he stressed that field work must move quickly and that problems should be resolved on site rather than from offices. The minister said committee members were granted the necessary powers to ensure work proceeds without disruption.
