SALAHUDDIN, Iraq โ€” Eight of 54 public officials subject to arrest warrants were detained overnight in an anti-corruption operation at the Salahuddin Provincial Council building, according to the provincial governorate. The warrants stem from administrative irregularities dating back several years, provincial spokesman Saba Sami said in a written statement. The overnight operation was carried out by security forces accompanied by teams from Iraq's Commission of Integrity, Sami said, without providing further details of the investigation. He added that the governorate was not in possession of additional information about the case and that it would be handled by the competent authorities. The statement said the governorate supports the work of judicial and oversight bodies and would ensure accountability for those found responsible. Security sources said the operation began overnight and that efforts to detain the remaining suspects were ongoing. No further details were immediately available.
