The United Nations said the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is growing at an accelerating pace, with recorded deaths now exceeding 2,500. A senior UN official said roughly half of those fatalities were recorded over the past 20 days, and that the rate of new cases has risen sharply compared with earlier periods.
Health teams are continuing quarantine measures in affected areas to slow transmission. International organizations said vaccination campaigns have been accelerated and the number of personnel deployed in the field has been increased.
Officials also pointed to community engagement challenges and security concerns as obstacles to the response. The UN described the situation as requiring urgent international action to contain further spread.
