Duhok Draws 1-1 With Al-Garafa in Iraq Stars League Opener

DUHOK, Iraq — Duhok drew 1-1 at home with Al-Garafa in the opening round of the Iraq Stars League, with both sides unable to secure a winner after the hosts equalized in the 79th minute. Al-Garafa led 1-0 at halftime after professional player Prince Mamba scored in the 41st minute. Duhok had an earlier opportunity to take the lead but missed a penalty in the 13th minute through Yunus Hammud. Igor Henrique scored Duhok’s equalizer midway through the second half. In the 88th minute, the referee sent Al-Garafa coach Yamen Zelfani off following his protests. Two matches are scheduled for 21:00 later Thursday. Police Club will host Najaf at Al-Qaysari Stadium in Baghdad, while Erbil faces Al-Shorta at Franso Hariri Stadium in Erbil.
