Indian clinical pathology and genomics specialist Dr. Shaili Mahajan is recommending five routine health screenings for people over 35, citing the cumulative effects of stress, sleep deprivation, inactivity and poor diet that become more pronounced after that age.
Mahajan placed blood sugar testing at the top of the list, saying it enables early detection of prediabetes and carbohydrate metabolism disorders. The second step involves cardiovascular risk assessment through blood pressure measurement and cholesterol testing, which she recommends because the risk of heart attack and stroke rises gradually after 35.
Liver and kidney function tests are also included, as problems in these organs can progress without symptoms for extended periods. Mahajan said thyroid function should be checked as well, describing the thyroid as the body's primary metabolic regulator. As the fifth and final step, she advised measuring vitamin D3 and B12 levels.
