DHIQAR, Iraq โ The Dhi Qar Health Directorate said hemorrhagic fever cases in the southern Iraqi province had risen to 76 as of June 11, 2026, with six deaths recorded since the start of the year due to complications. A directorate official said two new cases had been detected in the past 48 hours, while most patients recovered after treatment by medical teams in isolation wards.
Dhi Qar has recorded the highest number of hemorrhagic fever cases nationwide this year, according to the directorate. The province has not previously seen cases on this scale, the official added.
A joint commission comprising the Health Directorate and the local Veterinary Hospital is continuing efforts to contain the outbreak. Authorities are running intensive disinfection campaigns targeting barns and livestock and have introduced preventive measures aimed at curbing transmission. No further details on the response were immediately available.
