Coordination Framework gives Ali Zeydi authority over arms file

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq’s Coordination Framework said at its 279th regular meeting in Baghdad that it had tasked Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Zeydi with taking the necessary decisions on the weapons file. In a statement, the alliance said it supports limiting weapons to the state and reorganizing the relationship between the Popular Mobilization Forces and political, party and social structures. It described the Popular Mobilization Forces as an official security institution bound by the constitution and applicable laws. The Coordination Framework said it backs efforts to separate the force from political and party activity. It also said that the decision on war and peace can be made only by parliament and the elected government. The statement said Zeydi was given authority to take steps to protect security and stability in line with national interests. It also called for completion of efforts to end the mission of the international coalition in Iraq.
