BAGHDAD, Iraq — SAO PAULO — Brazilian biscuit and related-product exports to the Middle East rose sharply in the first half of 2026, according to data from the Brazilian Biscuit, Pasta, Bread and Industrial Cake Manufacturers Association. By the end of June, the value of shipments to the region reached about $2.3 million, up 73 percent year-on-year, while volume rose 38 percent to 815 tonnes.
The association listed Iraq alongside Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine and Syria as Arab markets targeted by Brazilian biscuit exporters. Sales were concentrated in biscuits, particularly waffles and wafer products.
The industry body attributed the growth to market-adaptation steps including Arabic-language packaging, halal certification and the development of flavors suited to regional consumers. The association's international director, Rodrigo Iglesias, said the sector's exports were on track to reach a record level by the end of 2026, despite logistical challenges and rising freight and insurance costs.
Brazilian biscuit products reach 115 countries worldwide, with the Middle East accounting for roughly 3 percent of total sector exports.
