ZAKHO, Iraq โ Rescue teams recovered the body of an 18-year-old in Zakho on Friday, 48 days after the young person disappeared while falling into the Habur River, according to a Zaho Administration security official.
The body was found near Shinava, a region within the Zaho Administration's jurisdiction. Authorities sent the remains to the forensic medicine department of Zakho's Emergency Hospital for legal and medical procedures.
The official said the Habur River's water level exceeded six meters at the time of the incident, and strong currents with murky water hampered the search effort. The death marks the eighth drowning recorded in the Zaho Administration area this year, the official added, noting that some cases were accidental while others were attributed to other causes.
