Barzani, Samerrai call for stronger political coordination in Iraq

ERBIL, Iraq — Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani and Azm Alliance leader Muthanna al-Samarrai met in Erbil to discuss political developments in Iraq, according to a statement from Barzani’s office. The meeting took place at Barzani’s residence in Pirmam. The statement said the two sides agreed on the need to strengthen coordination and cooperation among political parties. It added that they discussed the overall political situation in Iraq. Samarrai had arrived in Erbil a day earlier and also met with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani. That meeting covered Baghdad’s steps to keep weapons under state control, completing the government and filling vacant ministries. The two sides said political coordination among groups should continue in the public interest and to support stability.
