BAGHDAD, Iraq โ The Baghdad Social Protection Authority has completed verification of data for approximately 7 million citizens enrolled in its social assistance program and transmitted the records electronically to the Ministry of Trade, according to the authority's president.
The Ministry of Trade will begin distributing food baskets to those registered in the program starting Sunday, June 7, 2026. Each basket will contain five basic staple items: sugar, cooking oil, milk, tea and flour.
Authority President Ahmed al-Mussawi said the data was sent through electronic systems to ensure accuracy and expedite the distribution process. He added that the authority continues to upgrade its digital infrastructure and strengthen coordination with relevant government agencies.
The food distribution program is part of broader efforts to support families receiving social protection assistance and reinforce food security for vulnerable populations in Iraq.
