BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi authorities have received weapons and fighter records from Saraya al-Salam, a Shiite armed group, as part of an ongoing effort to bring armed groups under state control.
Colonel Kays al-Muhammedi, head of the Commission for the Transfer of Weapons and Vehicles to the State, accepted the records Thursday in Baghdad. The commission oversees the process of cataloging weapons and vehicle inventories held by armed groups and transferring that information to official state institutions.
The transfer requires armed groups to submit detailed records of their fighters, weapons and vehicles to government authorities. Officials say the procedure is being carried out in accordance with official regulations.
The move is part of a broader effort to restructure armed forces under state authority in Iraq.
