Baghdad police arrest handbag thief in Karkh district

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Police in Baghdad's Karkh district arrested a thief accused of stealing women's handbags in the area, the Karkh Police Command said on Friday. The operation was supervised by Karkh Police Commander Major General Adnan Hasan Hamid. According to the command, officers from the Mansur Unit of the Karkh Anti-Crime Directorate identified the suspect and located him using technical means. The man had been riding a motorcycle through narrow streets and side roads to target women and snatch their bags, the statement said. A specialized team was set up to investigate the case, gathering information and conducting field research before a trap was laid with the required legal approvals. The suspect was apprehended and referred to the competent judicial authorities, with legal proceedings underway. No further details were immediately available.
