Baghdad mayor opens two renovated main sewage plants in Karkh

BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Baghdad Mayor Ammar Musa Kazim on Monday opened the Hibiyya and Hadra main sewage treatment plants in the Karkh district after completing renovation works funded by the World Bank, the Baghdad Municipality said in a statement. The upgrades were carried out to strengthen the capital's infrastructure and improve the quality of sewerage services.
According to the municipality, the Hibiyya plant serves the Shaab, First and Second Sadr, Kadhimiya and New Baghdad areas, while the Hadra plant covers the Ghazaliya, Amiriya and surrounding Karkh neighborhoods. Both facilities were fitted with new generators, odor-control systems and modern electronic monitoring equipment as part of the renovation.
The opening ceremony was attended by the municipality's assistant secretary-general for technical affairs, the director general of the Baghdad Sewerage Department, the mayor of Kadhimiya and deputy heads of the First Sadr and Mansour municipalities. The municipality said strategic projects in drinking water and public services have been advancing on a schedule set more than two years ago, with additional openings planned in the coming period.
