Prime Minister Ali Fadhil al-Zaydi met with a delegation from the National Shiite Movement in Baghdad to formalize the integration of the Saraya al-Salam militia into Iraq’s official security apparatus. The discussions focused on establishing operational mechanisms to facilitate the transition of personnel and the surrender of militia weaponry to the state.
To oversee the transition, the government has established a dedicated committee tasked with managing the integration process. This initiative follows a directive from Muqtada al-Sadr calling for the disarmament of his followers and their formal incorporation into state institutions.
Prime Minister al-Zaydi commended the move, characterizing the initiative as a significant national step toward consolidating state authority. The committee will now work to finalize the administrative and security procedures required to complete the merger.
