BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” The Iraqi Transport Ministry in Baghdad has issued a statement explaining a decision to assign personnel from the Electricity Ministry as drivers to some public service companies. The ministry said the measure was intended to address driver shortages at state-run enterprises without adding new employment costs to the government budget. According to the statement, only experienced drivers under the age of 45 will be reassigned, with approximately 1,000 workers expected to be transferred. The ministry said the decision resulted from high-level coordination between the transport and electricity ministers and aims to fill operational gaps in public transport services. The General Company for Passenger and Delegation Transport will be prioritized under the plan, with operations expected to resume once the reassignments are complete. The ministry described the arrangement as an example of inter-ministerial administrative flexibility and cooperation.
