BABYL, Iraq โ The Babylon Provincial Council said it has not received any official notice or correspondence from judicial or security authorities regarding council member and Security Committee head Muhanned El-Anizi. In a written statement, the council said reports of an arrest warrant issued against El-Anizi do not reflect the truth, adding that no formal notification on the claims had reached the body.
The claims surfaced on social media and on some news platforms after a video circulated showing El-Anizi addressing Prime Minister Ali Zaydi and calling for resistance weapons to be handed over. In the footage, El-Anizi used the phrase "leave it to the elders."
The council said it would continue to follow the matter through official channels. No further details were immediately available.
