BASRA, Iraq โ A man described by a security source as one of the city's "most dangerous" wanted suspects was arrested on Saturday, according to Basra security officials. The suspect had been wanted under Article 4 of Iraq's counter-terrorism law and faced multiple charges including murder, extortion and seizure of citizens' land.
The arrest was carried out by units of the Basra Directorate of Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism, the source said. Investigators linked the suspect to an armed attack on a civilian's home in the Munawi Pasha area in central Basra, the latest in a series of alleged crimes across the city.
Security forces also released footage they said showed the suspect carrying out looting and arson attacks in various parts of Basra in earlier incidents. No further details were immediately available on the suspect's identity or the ongoing investigation.
