Apple has introduced a call-screening feature in iOS 26 that lets iPhone users manage incoming calls from numbers not saved in their contacts. When activated, the phone prompts unknown callers to state the reason for their call before the device rings, then transcribes the response on screen and gives the user the option to pick up or ignore the call. The feature offers three settings under Settings โ†’ Apps โ†’ Phone โ†’ Screen Unknown Callers: "Never," "Ask Reason for Calling" and "Silence." The "Silence" option sends calls from unsaved numbers directly to voicemail, while "Ask Reason for Calling" is designed to filter unwanted calls without losing important contacts such as doctors or businesses. Apple said the tool does not require Apple Intelligence and is available on all iPhone models compatible with iOS 26. The company described the approach as an added layer of protection against unwanted calls while still allowing legitimate calls to get through.
