Ambrey joins salvage effort for drifting oil tanker off Oman

British maritime security firm Ambrey said it is assisting salvage operations for the Caroline BZ, an oil tanker drifting off Oman. In statements to Reuters and Agence France-Presse, the company said it is working with relevant parties in Oman and conducting a pollution response operation with the support of an international firm. Ambrey said rescue vessels are en route to support the Caroline and that specialists have boarded the vessel to assess its condition. The tanker reported a malfunction on June 8 near the Yemeni coast, with early reports indicating blast damage and water ingress. The vessel later began leaking oil while drifting near the Helaniyat Islands. The tanker was carrying Russian oil and appears on Western sanctions lists, with a cargo of roughly one million barrels. Omani authorities said the spill has expanded to about 390 square kilometers and that oil has reached parts of the country's coastline. No further details on the salvage timeline were immediately available.
