Kermanshah has produced 3 million native saplings to help revive the Zagros forests, as part of afforestation projects and wood cultivation programs tied to the green economy. Officials said the saplings produced for the 2025/2026 period will be used to develop urban and rural green spaces, strengthen forest cover and curb soil erosion.
The program is being carried out through afforestation efforts and wood-growing initiatives designed to support environmental restoration while also serving local economic needs. Authorities said it aims to provide resources that meet the needs of local communities and reduce pressure on natural forests.
More than 21 species are being cultivated at two separate nurseries in the region. The facilities are adapted to both hot and cold climate conditions.
Officials said the effort is intended to support the long-term rehabilitation of the Zagros woodland belt. They added that expanding sapling production is central to reinforcing forest structure across the province.
