BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Authorities seized $22.9 million in cash hidden inside vertical air-conditioning units at an apartment belonging to former Oil Ministry Deputy Minister Adnan Jumaili, according to a report. The discovery was made during a search conducted as part of a corruption case being prosecuted by the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court.
The Iraqi High Judicial Council had previously announced Jumaili's detention in connection with the investigation, along with the arrests of other suspects linked to the case. The council also said the amount of cash recovered in the case had risen.
Jumaili previously served as deputy minister responsible for liquidation affairs at the Oil Ministry. The investigation is part of a corruption file known publicly as the "Jumaili case," in which several senior officials have been detained.
No official confirmation of the cash seizure had been issued at the time of the report, and further details were not immediately available.
