Ticket prices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have reached historic highs, with some categories selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to Bloomberg News. The tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, has drawn sharp criticism from fans over soaring transportation and parking costs alongside the elevated ticket prices.
The New Jersey transportation authority priced stadium access tickets for the final at MetLife Stadium at $98, compared to a typical cost of roughly $13. FIFA is projected to earn up to $13 billion from the tournament, which is using a dynamic pricing system for the first time. Ticket demand has surpassed 500 million.
The U.S. government transferred $625 million to 11 host cities to help cover expenses, though the payment was not made until March 2025. Host cities have faced criticism for absorbing high operational costs, as match revenues flow directly to FIFA rather than to local organizers.
