BASRA, Iraq โ A young man was killed in an armed attack in the Imam Sadiq district of Basra, Iraq, on June 12, 2026, according to security sources. The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. local time in the Ilmin area.
The victim was identified as Hussein Nizar Samir al-Maliki, born in 1997 and a resident of the Nehayrat neighborhood in the Kurna district. Security sources said he was riding a red, unregistered motorcycle known locally as a tuc-tuc when he was struck by a bullet to the head and killed.
Criminal evidence teams examined the scene and transferred the body to the forensic medical unit. Security forces recovered three empty pistol casings in the area.
A joint investigative team was formed, drawing on the Imam Sadiq Police Division, Ilmin Police Station, emergency and patrol units, the Crime Combat and Intelligence directorates, and federal police forces. The investigation is ongoing to identify the attackers and determine the circumstances of the shooting.
