DUHOK, Iraq โ Two separate incidents in Zakho, in Iraq's Kurdistan Region, left one person dead and 11 others injured, local security and administrative sources said. A 24-year-old man was shot dead by his uncle with a silencer-equipped firearm at Duhok Emergency Hospital in the early hours, the sources said, describing the killing as rooted in a social dispute. An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
In a separate incident in the Shikan neighborhood of Zakho, a gas leak from a cylinder ignited while bread known locally as "raqiq" was being prepared in a residential yard, injuring 11 people. Six of the wounded are women and five are men, with ages ranging from 3.5 to 56.
The injured were first taken to Zakho Emergency Hospital before being transferred to Duhok's Burn Hospital due to the severity of their conditions. Civil defense teams and police were dispatched to the scene, and an investigation into the cause of the accident has been opened. No further details were immediately available.
