WASIT, Iraq โ Governor Ali Hasan Sulayman announced the formation of a high-level investigation committee to examine the handling of a peaceful protest by farmers in the Zubaydiyah district. In a written statement, Sulayman condemned any irresponsible or unjustified use of force against the farmers, saying peaceful protest is protected under the constitution.
The governor said the committee has been activated immediately to determine the full circumstances of the incident and to ensure those responsible face legal proceedings. He described the protection of citizens' dignity as a red line and said all details would be brought to light.
Sulayman described Wasit's agricultural sector as the backbone of the provincial and national economy, pledging continued support for the farmers' legitimate demands. He said the governorate would pursue their rights through ongoing meetings with senior officials and would continue to engage directly with the farmers.
