WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that the Strait of Hormuz is fully open, with more oil now passing through than before. He added that Iran will never be able to acquire a nuclear weapon.
Trump said Iran had performed "very well" on the Hormuz issue and that negotiations toward a fair and reasonable deal between Washington and Tehran were making good progress. He also said frozen Iranian funds would be used solely to purchase food products from American farmers.
The statement came after U.S. and Iranian delegations completed an initial round of talks in Switzerland aimed at reaching a permanent agreement within 60 days. Mediators from Pakistan and Qatar said the two countries had made encouraging progress and that discussions on technical details would continue this week.
