The administration has made clear that attacks by Iran-backed militias from Iraqi territory must be prevented and is aware of ongoing talks on disarming some of those groups, with decisions expected to be shaped by "measurable results." Trump is said to have wished Ziyadi success in forming a new government, while making clear that the relationship will depend on how far Baghdad delivers on its security and sovereignty commitments. Ziyadi arrived in Washington with a senior delegation that included ministers, officials and investors.
