BAGHDAD, Iraq โ US Central Command said it launched a new air assault on Iran early Tuesday local time, striking multiple military sites across the country's south. Iranian state television reported explosions in Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province, on Qeshm Island, Henjam Island and Abu Musa Island, as well as in the city of Jam in Bushehr province.
A US official told CNN that the targets included surveillance systems, drone facilities and missile deployment sites. Central Command confirmed the strikes were carried out simultaneously at several locations in southern Iran.
Iranian authorities have not released an official statement on casualties or damage. On Monday evening, US President Donald Trump said new and large-scale strikes against Iran would be carried out and that nuclear facilities would be hit.
