US plans talks with European allies on Strait of Hormuz security mission

WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — The US military command is planning a meeting with European allies to consult on a mission to ensure navigational security in the Strait of Hormuz, following a deal reached with Iran, Bloomberg reported. The United States had previously envisioned holding the talks as part of an international conference. Iran's Foreign Ministry announced that it had agreed with Oman to establish a temporary navigation corridor and to work together on clearing mines within it, and that the two sides had also agreed to continue talks on setting up a permanent transit lane in the strait, which has been closed. US President Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social that the mines in the Strait of Hormuz needed to be removed or detonated. The timing of the planned meeting and the list of participating countries have not yet been announced.
