WASHINGTON, United States โ The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has warned that COVID-19 infections are rising and could increase across all 50 states. The agency said emergency department visits linked to the virus remain very low, but wastewater data provide a more accurate picture of community spread because the analysis can detect traces of infection even in people without symptoms.
CDC data show virus activity at moderate levels in Hawaii and Mississippi, while Alabama, Alaska, California, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, Nevada, Texas and Washington, along with other western and southern states, record low levels. Activity in the remaining states is classified as very low. Across the dataset, COVID-19 appears substantially more prevalent than influenza and RSV.
Officials said an updated vaccine targeting the dominant XFG variant is expected to be available from autumn, with work continuing to manage the virus and limit the impact of future waves.
